Faculty of Garment Technology and Fashion Design
Faculty of Garment Technology & Fashion Design was established on October 1st, 2003.
Currently, the faculty has 92% of lecturers with postgraduate qualifications.
In the academic year 2003 - 2004, the faculty enrolled the first course to train the professional intermediate level of Garment Technology.
In the academic year 2005 - 2006, the faculty enrolled in the first college course for the two majors of Garment Technology & Fashion Design.
The school year 2009 - 2010, with the permission of the Ministry of Education and Training and the School, the faculty began to enroll university-level students for 2 majors of Garment Technology and Fashion Design.
In the academic year 2019 - 2020, the faculty enrolled in bachelor programs for 3 majors: Textile engineering, Garment Technology, Fashion Design to meet the needs of businesses as well as the trend of the development of the textile and fashion industry in the future.
Over the years, the Faculty has trained and provided thousands of high-tech workers for garment and fashion enterprises. The rate of graduating students from year to year is from 90 - 95% on average, of which the rate of pretty excellent students accounts for 35-40%. Nearly 100% of students have jobs after 2 months of graduation, over 90% of them are following the correct profession of training. Through polls of businesses, they have a good assessment of the skills and working consciousness of the graduates of the faculty. Many alumni are business owners or work in key positions in the business.
Faculty of Garment Technology and Fashion Design identifies people, training programs and training methods as the top factors contributing to the quality of training. The faculty has focused on performing the following tasks:
1. Training, retraining and staff development
Training and fostering the lecturers is particularly interested and implemented in many forms such as creating conditions for teachers to improve their professional qualifications; Every year, the divisions will plan to foster knowledge and practical skills for teachers; field trips in enterprises to access new technologies and effective production models; send lecturers to participate in short-term professional refresher courses conducted by foreign organizations and experts; encourage lecturers to participate in contests for good teaching at all levels to improve pedagogical skills, ... In addition, lecturers regularly exchange expertise, profession and academic activities in the division.
2. Developing training programs and compiling textbooks
The training program is one of the main factors affecting the quality of training. With 50% of lecturers in the faculty having practical experience working in textile, garment and manufacturing, fashion business is a favorable condition in the process of building a training program that is close to reality and suitable with the demand of using the labor of the society. In the process of teaching and bringing students to internships in enterprises, the divisions regularly update enterprises' comments on training progress, contents of modules, skills as well as the sense of learning and working of learners. Thereby, every year the division recommends to the Faculty and the School to adjust the training schedule, supplement the content and edit the detailed program of the module to contribute to improving the quality of training.
With credit-based training, it is especially important to provide textbooks and documents for learners. Teachers have been active in the task of compiling the curriculum. 90% of the current theoretical course syllabus is compiled by the lecturers in the faculty.
3. Career guidance and internships in the enterprises
With credit-based training, the learner plays a central role. Therefore, in order to create active learning, learners 'passion for subjects, Faculty of Garment Technology and Fashion Design has guided the learners' career in many ways such as:
- Invite business representatives, fashion stylists to talk and introduce careers for the freshmen.
- The Faculty deployed students to visit and practice at enterprises in the industry. This is a very effective career guidance activity. Students directly observe work positions in the industry, understand the knowledge, skills and attitudes required by them after graduation to meet the requirements of those positions. This activity has contributed to students realize the importance of the upcoming courses to learn. Learners are more clearly aware of the purpose of learning.
- Passing on the interest and passion of the profession to learners: In addition to complying with the provisions on the introduction of the subject, detailed program, the importance and applicability of the subject in the real work, ... Lecturers of the faculty also focus on guiding learning methods, self-research methods to help learners achieve higher efficiency and form career interest and passion.
- Build a good relationship between teachers and learners to help learners feel that the school is their second home. Teachers are dynamic, enthusiastic and passionate about the profession, always create the best conditions for students to study.
- The faculty has organized many professional activities combined with cultural and artistic movement activities, with the purpose of creating a playground for students such as organizing contests for skilled students, Fashion Design competitions, .... These activities have attracted many students to participate and achieve encouraging success.
In order for learners to have practical skills after graduating from university, the Faculty of Garment Technology and Fashion Design has paid special attention to students’ internships in enterprises. Our Faculty has a good relationship with over 40 enterprises in the textile, garment and fashion industries. In order to improve students' skills, in addition to the internship courses in enterprises in the training program, practice combined with production at the school, the faculty encourages students to voluntarily register for real internships in the business during the summer holidays. This activity was enthusiastically responded and participated in by the students. Through the training sessions, learners have the opportunity to get access to the actual work of the workers. During the internship in the business, job opportunities have been created for students after graduation.
4. Scientific research and international cooperation
Scientific research is one of the key tasks of the University. In recent years, the Faculty has implemented and accepted scientific research projects that have been applied in practical training with high efficiency such as:
- The topic "Using image technology in training and practicing garment technology ", 2007;
- Accept 02 school-level topics, published 02 scientific articles in the Journal of Science and Technology; Compile and accept 03 textbooks in 2012.
- Implement 04 school-level scientific research topics, 11 topics of scientific research students; Compile and accept 07 textbooks in 2013.
- Participate in 01 State-level topic, implement 1 school-level topic and publish 2 scientific articles; Compiled and accepted 06 textbooks in 2014.
- Accept 02 school-level topics, publish 01 scientific articles; Compile and accept 07 textbooks in 2015.
- Announce 06 articles in the journals of Science and Technology, Vietnam Mechanics, Culture and Art, Art Education ... Compile and accept 04 textbooks in 2016.
Along with the trend of international integration, with the support of the Board of Directors, the faculty has cooperated with many foreign organizations, enterprises and universities such as:
- Signed a cooperation agreement with Hop Sinh Company, Beijing, China in the HaUI-Modasoft project "Research, application and Vietnameseization of Modasoft software" in Garment & Fashion industry.
- Join the project with Batik Organization (France) in the framework of professional training support for lecturers in Fashion Design.
- Contact a number of foreign universities such as Dong Hoa University (Shanghai) about Garment Industry – Fashion design; Jungwon University (Korea) in the field of beauty, Napoli (Italy) in the fashion field ... as the basis for future joint training plans.
- Sign a cooperation agreement with LECTRA Software Company (France) to provide and install 25 copyrighted software for the faculty for training in Garment and fashion industry.
- Sign a memorandum of understanding on training and scientific research with Kwantlen University of Technology (KPU) Canada.
5. Orientation of development
- Innovate application-oriented training programs and improving teaching methods using CDIO.
- Continue to foster and improve the qualification of lecturers, to enroll and train for master's degree in 2019. Improve the quality of training, provide a source of labor with high professional knowledge for garment and fashion enterprises.
- Invest in modern facilities to contribute to improving the quality of training and scientific research.
- Continue to actively contact and cooperate with domestic and international schools, organizations and enterprises on training, research and technology transfer activities.
